The 13th Plenary Assembly of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP), organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, was recently held at its headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Chinese enterprise Kingenta Group was invited to attend the event. Li Yuxiao, chairman of the company, shared Kingenta Group’s experience in soil improvement and increasing crop yields, and announced a plan to make its bio-based coated slow-release fertilizer technology available worldwide.
The meeting focused on soil health and global food security. Li introduced Kingenta Group’s breakthroughs in areas such as bio-based coated slow-release fertilizer technology, and systematic soil improvement.
The bio-based coated slow-release fertilizer, developed by Kingenta Group in partnership with Shandong Agricultural University and others, incorporates core research breakthroughs, has tackled several major technical challenges, and replaces traditional petrochemical coatings with environmentally friendly bio-based materials. The technology was honored with the Second Prize of the State Technological Invention Award in China.
Since launching its research and promotion efforts in slow-release fertilizers, Kingenta Group has received the national science and technology award three times and holds 158 patents in the field.
To support wider adoption, the company plans to share its slow-release fertilizer technology globally. According to Li, it will provide partners with comprehensive and customized services, including technological support, formula design, production process optimization, and application support.
Kingenta Group’s initiative to share its technology attracted great interest from attendees. Experts from Germany and Egypt noted that the company’s technological innovations have significantly lowered the production costs of slow-release fertilizers, making them practical for field crop cultivation. They emphasized that China’s approach to promoting this technology offers a valuable model for the rest of the world.
